NSSDC's Common Data Format (CDF) has been adopted by the International
Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) Program and by the Interagency
Consultative Group (IACG) which are multi-spacecraft, multi-national
programs with the objective to promote further understanding of the
complex plasma environment surrounding the Earth, other planets, and in
interplanetary space. Extensive data sharing and data analysis will be
needed to ensure the success of the overall ISTP/IACG program. For this
reason, there has been a special emphasis on data standards throughout
ISTP/IACG. Further information can be found at
http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/cdf/cdf_home.html.
The VIS image data, along with other relevant information, is converted
into CDF files where each file represents a single day of data obtained
by one of the two activated on-board cameras.
File naming conventions are yymmddvv.CDF where yy is a
two-digit year label, mm is the month, dd is the day of the
month, and vv is a version label as well as
PO_tt_VIS_yyyymmdd_Vvv.CDF where tt is the data file
type (e.g., K0, E0, EJ, etc.), yyyy is the four-digit year label,
mm is the month, dd is the day of the month and vv
is the version label. VIS CDF files created by SPDF starting in 2015 have
extended file names.
